Ronald I. Weiner, MSW, Ph.D., LCSW-C
Executive Director

Dr. Ronald I. Weiner, has been a noted authority on sexual offenders for over 40 years. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in Social Welfare and Social Policy as well as a Masters in Social Work from Howard University. Dr. Weiner is licensed in both Maryland and the District of Columbia as a clinical social worker. He is a Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work. Dr. Weiner is a clinical member of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers, the National Association of Social Workers, and the Academy of Certified Social Workers. 

Dr. Weiner has worked as a caseworker in the state of Maryland at the Patuxent Institution, a psychiatric correctional facility reserved for sexual offenders and violent offenders. He has also worked at the Clifton T. Perkins State Hospital, a hospital for offenders undergoing competency evaluations to stand trial as well as offenders who have been found not guilty by reason of insanity/not criminally responsible. Dr. Weiner also served as a caseworker for the United States Bureau of Prisons and as a Senior United States Probation and Parole Officer for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia for several years. He has been in private practice for over thirty years specializing in forensic assessment and treatment services to adult and juvenile sex offenders specifically and adult offenders generally. Dr. Weiner also has extensive experience in providing direct clinical mental health treatment services to individuals experiencing mental or emotional problems. He also has over fifteen years experience providing Employee Assistance Counseling to individuals experiencing personal, drug, marital, or work related problems.

Dr. Weiner has extensive teaching and training experience in the field of criminology, criminal psychology, and law and psychiatry. He has been a Professor at American University since 1969 and is currently Professor Emeritus of Justice. He has conducted extensive research on sexual offenders and developed innovative individual and group techniques for work with sexual offenders.  These techniques include the card sort technique, the victimology apology letter, and the Cognitive 5 Step Model for controlling deviant sexual thoughts. Dr. Weiner has also completed extensive work on the development of measurable sex offender treatment objectives as well as a monthly sex offender risk severity index.
